Dogs Friends Christmas Dinner

We thought we deserves a Christmas Meal out this year, so if any supporters, fosterers or adoptors who would like to get more involved would care to join us on the 22nd December at The Fox in Yate please let Louise or Pete and Diane know, sorry on this one occasion dogs not allowed. Merry Christmas!

Dog Virus Warning

Parvovirus has taken serveral dogs lives in the past 3 weeks, all in the Weston Super Mare area.  Please make sure your dogs are fully protected with their vaccinations being up to date!

Auction Thanks

Thank you to everyone who donated and who came along to the Auction on Saturday night. A great night was had by all and we raised a fantastic amount of money, the grand total for the evening being £2929.00!

A fabulous buffet was supplied by volunteers so thank you to everyone who brought along food, it was very much appreciated. A special thanks must go to Will our auctioneer who made the evening such fun and to the Landlord and Landlady of the Railway Inn, Yatton for the use of the function room.

We are planning to make this an annual event, so see you again next year!

Concert Thanks

A huge thanks to all who attended the brilliant concert by the Weston Light Orchestra on Saturday.  A fab night was had by all, and a magnificent profit of £235 was raised for our funds.
The Orchestra performed to their usual high standard, and were really great.   A big thanks to them.
And a special thanks to Doreen and Dennis, without whom the event wouldn't have happened

Westie Walk - Photos now on Events Page!

A big thanks to all who attended the Westie Walk, and thanksgiving service for Snowy Peacock and all other lost pets.  We have collected all the stones with the names on them, will varnish them and move them to the stables at Westbury where they will rest - waiting for spring when the memorial daffodils will annouce the return of new life.
approximately £300 was raised for Dogs Friends funds, and we collected lots of donated food and bedding.  Lots of dogs enjoyed riding the Westie train - rechristened the 'Snowy Express' for the day by Bob and Sue.
If you are in the area, please pop in and have a go on the train and enjoy a cuppa and piece of cake there.  Have a sit on Snowy's memorial bench there and remember all that you have to be thankful for!

Car Stickers

We are looking into having some printed but want a good slogan on them - please email us any ideas you might have!

Cat Food

We often try to help other small rescues like ourselves and do sometimes get donations of cat food that we do pass on to cat rescues so thank you - and keep it coming it is very welcome!

Bedding - Thanks

Thank you again to all our supporters who pulled out all the stops as usual and managed to get us a fantastic amount of bedding!  We have enough to keep us going now for a while so THANK YOU - it is great knowing we can rely on you all to help when we need it!

              HE IS A LARGE LABRADOR CROSS,

MAINLY BLACK WITH A WHITE CHEST & PAWS, HE HAS A TAIL; DUE TO HIS AGE HE OFTEN WALKS WITH A LIMP & SOMETIMES HAS A LAZY EYE.

THIS LOVELY GENTLE 10 YR OLD HOUND HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY SINCE A PUPPY, & EVERYONE IS MISSING HIM SO MUCH, PLEASE KEEP A LOOK OUT FOR HIM.

WE SO WANT HIM BACK WITH US WHERE HE BELONGS & AT HIS ADVANCED AGE HE DOESN’T NEED ANY BIG CHANGES OR UPSET.

Sardines

Thank you to everyone who has donated sardines, we still need them to help a lot of the dogs get their skin and coats back into good condition so please keep adding that tin for us to your weekly shop, it really helps.  Thank you!

DogCare

Dogs Friends often have to take in dogs from people with learning difficulties or who are going into nursing homes, hospital or have passed away.  These dogs are usually VERY much loved but often, sadly, the dogs have not been looked after as they should.  If you know someone who is struggling with their own health let along their dogs perhaps you could help them? Perhaps offer to flea the dog for them or take them for their annual check up and booster at the vets or offer to shop for the dog food they might have difficulty getting.  This could save a dog from unnecessary and unintentional distress.  Thank you!

16th August - Fun Dog Show - Thank you Marsha!

 

Dogs Friends would like to say a HUGE thank you to Marsha at Doggy Doos Day Care Centre (and all her helpers on the day) for organising such a great day.  We raised £292.00 with the raffle, tombola and dogs show. We hope Rottie Rescue did well too.  Thank you to all who came - we love seeing so many past foster dogs happy with their new families and thnk you to all the other dogs and owners that came along too.  Hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did, photos will be on the events page soon!

Holiday Apartment offer!

A Dogs Friends supporter has given us the change to rent his luxury apartment in Spain.  It is on a complex with 3 pool and over looks the sea and is only 20 mins from Murcia airport.  If the apartment appeals and you decide to treat yourself to a little break away please mention dogs Friends when booking as for every booking he will make a donation to Dogs Friends!

Transport Needed

All our fosterers do a great and sometimes difficult job, but they all know without them we would not be able to save so many dogs each year.  It is so rewarding to take in a dog especially one that hasn't had a good life and nurse them and turn them into happy, confident and balanced dogs but then comes the harder part! Seeing them go off to their new homes - it's fantastic to see but it can be sad too so thank you to all our fosterers who go through this so they can continue to help more dogs - a special mention must go to Ken who did this recently for Lola - she was a poorly little pup who touched a lot of peoples hearts - so thanks Ken and thank you to all our fosterers!

Staffie Campaign

Even if you have labs or collies or any other breed you must feel sorry for the 1000's of staffies being bred and discarded like trash- then to be destroyed after 7 days in most big pounds.
Something needs doing and a campaign has been started to try to improve the staffies lot . 
Visit the website and please sign up as a supporter and download the poster promoting these lovely little dogs and get those posters in vets pet shops doctors surgeries libraries - in fact anywhere that the 'family' visit particularly older people visit.

Warning!

A Dogs Friends volunteer was badly injured recently whilst walking their dog.  They were on a public right of way through a field that had a herd of cows in it. The cows surrounded him and the dog and knocked him to the ground and started kicking and trampling him.  He released the dog from the lead so she could escape, she managed to run away (thankfully found safe and well later if somewhat traumatised).  The man is very badly battered and bruised but thankful to have survived without serious injury.  Apparently this is quite common this time of year when calves are around so please be careful when out walking especially with your dogs near cows!

Behaviour Advice

If you have adopted a dog from us (or indeed foster) and want any advice on anything, please remember we are here to help as we care greatly about all our dogs.  For advice on anything you would like to discuss please call one of our contacts and we can put you in touch with someone to help.  However if it is a matter of the dogs health please do not delay in taking your dog to the vet!

Walkies?

Would you love to help a dog but cannot foster one yourself?  If you could spare some time perhaps you would like to come to the stables near Cheddar and walk one of the foster dogs there, weekdays between 9 and 5, Saturdays 10 to 4.  If you can help please phone first and speak to Julian on 07877680107 to arrange a time. The Western Daily Press have very kindly agreed to feature one of our dogs EVERY Saturday.  This will be a fantastic help in finding our dogs their home for life.  Please check the paper each week to see who is featured!

T-shirts!

Fosterers, and those who support us by doing fund-raising etc, might want to consider the new look DF t-shirts.  Subtle they aren't - but they aren't supposed to be!  They were worn to great effect at the recent vegan fayre, attracting much interest in our work.

Essentially, you supply us with the shirt of your choice, and i'll get in printed with the usual DF logo on the left chest, and our web address in bold on the back.  We found navy shirts polo shirts with dayglo orange writing worked well!

A printer local to me does the print work for a flat fee of £5.
