Ryan Jack

This cheeky pup is with us as his family are moving and cannot take him with them.  It doesn't sound like he's had much socialisation and is apparently too boisterous with small children but he will be assessed fully tomorrow and the site updated then.

Buffy

Poor Buffy has been returned to us! Did this quiet, loving little girl do something terrible that could not be resolved by training I hear you ask?  Well.  I'll leave it to you to decide.  Apparently to get to a park her new owners were using a crossing that beeped.  This 'freaked' Buffy out so she was returned to us!! This is the 2nd time this POOR girl has been returned.  The first time was because her new owner decided she'd adopted a dog too soon after losing her dog and couldn't 'bond' with Buffy!!!

PLEASE DO NOT ADOPT A DOG YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO WORK WITH AND GIVE TIME TO - THEY ARE NOT DISPOSABLE COMODITIES!!!!

Buffy is only with us as her original owner sadly died.  She is only 6 and a sweet, loving but slightly timid girl. A tiny collie x maybe sheltie. Her original fosterer has since returned to work so cannot foster her, it would be a crime if this girl has to go into kennels... Thankfully another fosterer has offered her a place with them!

Twighlight

Twighlight is a lovely collie x husky.  She is only a 14 week old puppy.  She will need a sensible home, both breeds have specific needs so we have to be careful to ensure any future owner is aware. Because Husky's have strong inbred hunting instincts we will not home her with small animals - We'd rather not risk anything, this is from experience!  Similarly we would not home her with small children, she is going to be a very big dog and too many times have we been asked to take dogs as they have grown too big and bouncy for children, we try to ensure all our dogs go to homes that are suitable for them!

Holly

Holly is going to the vet tomorrow for her second vaccinations and a check over she is a Springer/Collie cross she is said to be 8 months old but acts much younger, she is almost there with her house training and needs some one to spend some time continuing her training and socialisation. She is a typical young pup into everything and very lively in between naps of course! she is currently in foster with another female dog and two cats and is excellent with all of them. She is extremely friendly playful and loving and just wants to be everywhere you are in the house .

Nellie

Nellie is yet another unclaimed Welsh dog.  She is extremely loving and very friendly.  She is only about 12 months old or less and so deserves her own home and family as soon as possible.

She is a real mixture of breeds.  She is very slightly built with fine long legs and is about the height of a cocker.

Like all our young dogs, she will greatly benefit from going to good training classes when she has settled in to her new home. Nellie doesn't like cats.
3/12 - Nellie is GORGEOUS.  She is just a pup with the waggiest tail I've ever seen.  She is tiny.  Maybe she is a whippet cross, or she is desperately under weight.  She has a beautiful brindle coat.  We think she would make a fab family dog...without cats that is!
Look how tiny she is - but she make up for her lack of size in kisses!

Snoopy Jack - Home needed ASAP

Snoops is only 5 years old - he was taken to be put to sleep after growling at a child.  He is very well mannered and obedient and great with adults.  We have him in emergency foster care, he's obviously very scared of small children as he is hiding from them so needs a home with older children only.  He's a bit growly at his fosterers dogs but he has only just arrived.  He needs somewhere else ASAP, please help save this gorgeous boy.

If you would like a loving companion to sit on your lap and cuddle this is the dog for you! He LOVES his cuddles.

Snoops is becoming more relaxed in his foster home - still scared of the children but what a lovely boy!

Mary - now in foster

Mary is a Little tan terrier girl about 2 years old she is quite small about the size of a medium Jack Russell she is extremely friendly  loves to be carried and comes when called.

We picked Mary up yesterday and she travelled home well in the car.
> She is such a friendly and confident little dog; as soon as we got her
> into the garden she was exploring every corner.
>
> She soon settled and she allowed us to shower and dry her with
> absolutely no fuss. She loves to be handled and when you hold her she
> just presses as close to you as possible and covers you in kisses!
>
> She is quite bossy with our dog who is more than 3 times her size but
> I think she is just finding her feet and he doesn't seem to mind too
> much; it just highlights that she is not in any way a nervous dog.
>
> Mary just loves fuss and company; I have never known a dog to like
> being touched and cuddled so much. As soon as she gets attention she
> curls up and looks at you so lovingly. She knows 'sit' and will come
> when called.
>
> She waits for treats which she will take so gently like a little lady.
>
> Mary didn't make any noise to be let out for the toilet but when
> encouraged into the garden she relieved herself before bedtime. She
> then slept quietly in a crate until morning apart from 10 minutes of
> crying initially. She kept her bed clean and again went to the loo
> outside in the morning. We have had no accidents inside at all.
>
> This morning we went for a long walk and she was pulling quite hard on
> the lead but as she is small it was not too difficult to control her.
> We met many dogs who she greeted with sniffs and wags. She did have a
> little growl when 3 larger dogs (off lead) bounded towards her but she
> walked on
> when asked. We also met some older children who fussed her which she
> also enjoyed.
>
> This evening we put her in a non-pull harness to stop the strain on
> her neck and spent an hour doing some lead work. She is a very clever
> girl and after the session is already showing an amazing improvement;
> I don't think it will take her long at all to be absolutely perfect
> and I think we will be able to let her off the lead in a few days.

Joseph - needs a foster home

Joseph is a very small Collie x he is very nervous not at all used to a lead but is very gentle.

Shep

Shep is a 12 year old GSD x.  He was in a RSPCA pound because his owner died but they were going to put him to sleep so we have taken him in to give him a chance of finding a kind retirement home.  It is said he doesn't like children but would suit a retired person without small grandchildren very well!  Though 12 years he is still active and lively and loves his walks.  He's quite a small boy and very loving!  He too is very thin so we will get him on a good quality mature food to help.

Frosty - Needs a foster home

Frosty is a male Terrier, he is very lively but friendly seems good on a lead and will allow you to carry him and pick him up.

Tessa - Now in foster care

We were asked at very short notice to take this puppy in.

This poor poor puppy has had at least 6 homes in her very short life.  She has been passed from home to home, getting more and more confused and unhappy each time.

She was brought from a large Pet Shop when she was tiny.  So presumably she was bred on a puppy farm then sold via a dealer to a pet shop.  The lady who got her as a tiny cute puppy quickly got fed up with her and passed her on to someone else where the same thing happened.  Then again.  Then again.

It is heartbreaking what some dogs go through!!!

Please only offer Tessa a home if you are 110 per cent committed to giving her a forever, stable, sensible home.

Tessa is very sad and confused.  The lady who handed her over to us said the puppy is good with all people and other dogs.  The puppy is about 8 months old and a mixture of breeds.  She is small and slightly built.

Tessa will definitely need training and patience.

Tarran - the perfect family dog

Tarran is a lovely 3 year old dog, really friendly no trouble whatsoever. He's calm, has no behavioural issues, great with the kids and the cat. He's on a diet so hopefully the weight will start to drop off. He's well trained and has obviously come from a family where he has been well loved.

Obi

Obi is friendly, 17 month old collie cross. He came to Dog Friends due to a family ilness and has been in his new home for the last four weeks. Although his adopting family really love him and he has settled very well, they live in a terraced city house and feel his life would be better in a home with better access to lots of open space for walking and playing ball which he LOVES. He is large and quite strong but very friendly with people of all ages. He is fine with other dogs and never gets into fights in the park. As long as he has had his exercise he is generally good in the house and has never made a peep during the night. Prior to coming to Dog Friends he lived outside in a kennel but he will happily sleep indoors.

Obi would love a home where he can get lots of exercise. He is generally great off the lead and will not run off too far but it can sometimes be tricky to get him back on the lead because he is having so much fun. He needs to work on his lead walking as he does tend to pull at times particularly when en route to the park or on busy roads which seem to make him a bit nervous.

Overall he is a lovely and good natured dog who would make a great yard dog or active family pet.

Beatrix - Now in a new foster home and getting on great!

Beatrix  was found straying over in Wales and is very timid and scared at the moment.  Though obviously very confused, she has shown no aggression, just gratitude for a comfortable bed and luxury dinners.

We think Beatrix is about 12 to 18 months old.
Beatrix has settled into her new foster home well.  She eats well but is still very thin. Despite this she is very strong so could knock a child over.  Her tail chasing is a lot better and she is much more interested in her toys and chew.  She is gentle, affecionate and sits when asked. She asks to go outside but can't hold on too long if someone doesn't notice. She is a lovely girl who any rottie lover would fall for.
23/11 Poor Beatrix isn’t getting on well in her foster home.  She is very nervous and the building work with all the noise that goes with it is making her very stressed.  When stressed she spins and jumps about as though catching flies!  She also is scared to go out for walks via the busy road, she’s not just scared of cars it’s all traffic – even skateboards scare her.  We think she needs a very quiet, calm foster home with perhaps an older well balanced dog to help her.  If you can help please call urgently as otherwise she will have to go into kennels.
24/11 - Beatrix's fosterer has decided to look after her for a while longer.
26/11 - Beatrix’s fosterer has decided she cannot give Bea the care she needs.  The vet has said she needs exercise to get rid of her pent up energy and her fosterer cannot do this, so Bea needs to go to a calm but active house hold where she will have at least 2 good walks a day – can you help? We have until Tuesday when her fosterer needs her moved, it would be horrible for this girl to go to kennels so please let us know if you could help.  She is a loving girl but a bit of stability and a lot of exercise is all she needs.

Mistletoe - Her fosterer may adopt

Mistletoe was found straying in Wales, she is a Collie x Huntaway about 6 months old.  Missy is very good, she has accepted she is at the bottom of the pecking order, is behaved, quite, listens to commands will certainly sit to command. She is painfully thin so we will be building her up with a good diet.

PoppyLab

Poppy is a VERY beautiful 4 year old yellow Labrador from a Welsh farm.  Her owners have given her to us to find a home as the last few litters of puppies she has had have been huge and she needed a caesarean.

Poppy has lived all her life on the farm and is well used to lots of other dogs and the farmers family.  She travelled over very well and has gone to a lovely foster family with lots of other dogs.  The foster family will assess her and give further updates shortly.

This is one stunning Labrador.  She is very special.
30/11/09 Poppy the labrador is an ideal dog.    She is beautiful looking and has a temperament to match.  She is great with other dogs, not territorial and is already wagging her tail when we come into the room because she is pleased to see us.  She isn't housetrained but is learning very fast.  Haven't had her off the lead yet as it is still early days so can't say about recall but tonight for the first time she went for a walk with two of the other dogs and walked well by our sides, just wanted to stay with us.  She barked a few times last night but not horrendously.  A lovely, lovely girl.

Gaby

This is the gorgeous 5 year old tri colour Cav, Gaby.  She is very sweet, kind and gentle-a typical cav.

Gaby has just had major surgery to remove several tumours.  SHE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTING TILL SHE HAS COMPLETELY RECOVERED.

Like Poppy, Gaby has spent her whole life on a Welsh farm.  She has always been with other cavs.

She is being fostered by the family who has Poppy and Maise too.  They will fully assess her and further updates will follow soon.  She is not yet available.
30/11/09 Gaby is a darling.  She isn't doing much and is far more nervous than Poppy but is getting on fine with the other dogs.  She isn't doing too much as she is still getting over her operation but seems quite contented.  She isn't housetrained either and is not so quick to pick it up as Poppy but with perseverance this will sort out.  She too is a beautiful girl with a lovely nature.
Both Maisie and Gaby have awful teeth. They have both been booked in next Wednesday to have their teeth done.

Saxon- Now in a foster home

Saxon is a gorgeous Collie x Gsd.  About 4 years old.  He walks really well on the lead and despite having very bad ears is very cuddly.  He would be a lovely easy first foster dog for someone! Please contact Louise if you can help, he is currently in kennels.

25/11 - Saxon shouldn't be in kennels, he is a great dog, not too keen on being in the car but that is the only negative thing someone could say about him!  Please call if you could foster him!

27/11 -

Cannot believe poor Saxon is still in kennels, this boy is so loving and gentle , today I flea and wormed him and he just sat there and let me do it he is the same when he has his ear treatment put in even though it must be very sore. He puts his paws up on your chest not in a jumpy way just to try to get you to stay then puts his head in your arms he really is gorgeous and needs to be in a home with people to love him, he weighs 23 kilos and is the size of a collie it breaks my heart when I have to leave him.

1/12/09 - I have decided to take in Saxon as a foster dog because people are overlooking him as we don't know what he is like in a home.  Saxon is a beautiful, gentle boy with so much love to give.  So far he is being very good in our house, sitting quietly whilst I work.  He has shown no agression or dominance, despite my boy lurcher showing his teeth when around food and treats.  We have had some marking problems (although he has learnt quickly to being corrected), but no other mess - We all have to remember that Saxon has spent at least 4 weeks in various kennels and his world has again completely changed in the last day.  He is an intelligent boy, already learning to sit when asked who will learn quickly.

Saxon is a dream to walk on the lead, always staying slightly behind or next to you, his trotting pace is quick, but he always adjusts it to be by your side.  He is so gentle that even a small child could hold him.  I let him off briefly earlier, and he stayed right by me!

He does not seem interested by other dogs and completely ignored my chickens, which is a sign that he may ignore cats, but this would have to be tested.

When we first got in the car he was barking at oncoming cars, this was corrected by a squirt of water and he stopped immediately!  This boy will learn anything to please an owner

I feel he really needs someone he can trust and bond with in her new home, he needs people who could dote on him and give him lots of love and attention!  I feel at the moment, he would be ok with young children as he is so gentle, but this will need to be assessed further.

Noddy - Being HomeVetted!

This is very cute little Noddy.  He was unclaimed in a Welsh Pound.  We really are surprised as he is such a lovely puppy.  Very loving and friendly.

Noddy is 6 to 7 months old and a little terrier.  He REALLY needs his own home as soon as possible as he HATES being in kennels.  He is very smart and will hugely benefit from going to training classes when he has settled in to his new home.

He was 100 per cent good for the vet, with other dogs and travelling, but doesn't like cats.  In fact, he is a total babe!

Maisey

Maisey is a tiny 5 year old Yorkie.  She has not come in to season for the last couple of years so her owners have given her to us to find a luxury loving home for her.

This lovely tiny girl has never left her farm home before so is very daunted at the moment.  She will be assessed by the foster family and further updates will follow shortly.  She has always been with other little dogs and is very happy with them.

Maise is NOT ready for rehoming yet.  She needs time to adjust to her new type of life.
30/11/09 Dear little Maisey is a very small Yorkshire Terrier.  When we brought her back here she was absolutely petrified and we gave her a crate to settle down in.  She was much happier with this and we left her to it yesterday. Today, however, she has been venturing out into the living room and running from one piece of furniture  to another finding safe places to peek out. She is so much easier today and you can see that she is a darling little girl.  She has a good appetite and has eaten the best of the three of them!  We only tried her with the other dogs which are ours once and they overwhelmed her a bit so we have left them for now until she is more confident but she is good with Poppy and Gaby.
4/12/09 Both Maisey and Gaby have awful teeth. They have both been booked in next Wednesday to have their teeth done.
The vet also did a blood test on Maisey because she has been drinking quite a bit and it came back OK but she is going to take another when she is under anasthetic to be sure she is A1.
The really good news is that the housetraining is coming on very well, particularly Poppy and by putting all our dogs (9) in the kitchen together at night they didn't bark at all last night. Maisie and Gaby share a basket at every opportunity, Maisie sneaks in with Gaby and Gaby doesn't seem to mind.  Gaby doesn't like going out very much(she lays down) but once outside (carried) she is fine.

Nicole - Reavailable only because the cats don't like her!

Nicole is a beautiful, large GSD.  The history we have been given by the Welsh dog warden who handed her over to us is as follows - An elderly person got her as a young puppy.  He lived in a flat.  All went well to begin with but, unsurprisingly, Nicole became too big and strong for her owner to handle.  So the poor dog has spent most of her adult life locked in a dog crate in a flat.  You can imagine the mental and physical state this lovely girl is in.

Nicole needs to go to a VERY knowledgeable, sensible person who will have the time and patience and skill to socialise and train her.  In the wrong hands, Nicole will be very unhappy and very unsafe.  In the right hands, she will be your friend for life.

Nieve - Being Home Vetted!

Nieve was found straying over in Wales and was taken to the local pound where she severed her 7 days without being claimed.

She is in a very sorry state and has obviously had to fend for her self for quite a while.  Her coat is very dirty and matted.  Her skin is sore.  She is very thin and extremely nervous.  It seems like she has never been on a lead before.  She was most likely dumped by a puppy farmer though she has never had puppies.

Nieve is incredibly sweet and gentle.  She will definitely need to go to a kind, loving home where there already is another kind canine who will show her the ropes of home life.

She will be going to a dog groomer tomorrow to start her coat and skin treatment.  Nieve also has a very sad looking 'cauliflower' ear.  She will be a very loyal and loving friend to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her
4/12/09
She has been to the vets today for a check up. She is very under weight around 5K, both ears very badly infected, lump on her leg an old  wound that has healed, nothing nasty. This vet puts her age at 6/7 and say's she has had multiply litters.

Nieve is definitely one of the worst conditions in all ways that Dogs Friends has ever taken in.  It is absolutely heart breaking to think how much this lovely young little dog has endured.  She was obviously out for quite a while in this awful weather.

It is so hard to do what we do sometimes...........  Her poor, frail battered, neglected body.  Her totally gratitude for ever meal.  And ever kind word was greeted with a wag.

Nick

The sixth unwanted pound dog that came over today is the stunning collie boy, Nick.  He is a lovely, noble, wise boy.  Though very scared and unsure, he showed zero aggression.  Nick was perfect with the vet.  He does not know how to walk on a lead.  Most likely he was a farm dog.

Nick is aged about 5 years old and is very thin though in good condition.

Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Nick, will have an amazing, intelligent friend for life.  He so deserves a loyal, intelligent owner who will be good enough for him in return.

Nick is starting to come out of his shell a bit more now. He really will make someone a wonderful pet.
Positives: He is getting better on the lead, he is eating well, socializing really really well with the other dogs, really lovely soft coat...really sweet face...
Negative: As he has gained more confidence he has become more and more interested in the cats. No way as bad a Nellie but did bite my kittens tail this morning and has started chasing them...I really do think we can change this behaviour and make him better with persistence and patience...

Dougal - Now in a foster home

Dougal is a 3 year old Westie.  Like many Westies he has a mind of his own and if allowed to will do his own thing, and he has learnt that sometimes snapping gets him his own way so probably best not to go with Children.  He does bark, especially at postmen and he doesn't like travelling in the car - that's his bad points.  He is however utterly adorable and is only being given up as his owner has a heart complaint and can no longer care for him  if you could foster or adopt please call. He says:

'Dougal is his original name, the only other is his pedigree name of Snuffmills Scotch. He was born on the 2nd July 2006.  He is a very lovable little dog although he is not a dog to be cuddled on your knee, he loves being stroked and given a good rub all over his body, especially the first thing in the morning when he meets me at the bottom of the stairs. He was apparently taught not to climb the stairs and will not venture to do so. He loves a walk and he has at least 3 every day. We meet plenty of other dogs on our walks and he gets on very well with all the other dogs bar 1, a terrier who is renound for not liking white dogs. My daughter has a 7 year old small jack russell terrior and she likes to be the boss which he does not mind, and my son has a 18 month old labrador. All 3 play well together in the garden and when they walk together on the promenade. When out of the house he is a perfect dog and butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, it is in the house when he is protecting his property that his temperament changes. We live on a river bank and he hates the seagulls flying over and the birds and the river ducks invading his property'.

DaisyMae

Daisy Mae is really friendly and loves attention She will be 2 years old in April. She is being rehomed as the owner isn't strong enough to walk her.  She says Daisy is good with children and was good with a male Staffy who she really liked but  Daisy  has not got on with some other dogs. So she is probably good with some bad with others. The owner says she is good with cats, but it  sounds like they were confident cats which she has met. Daisy is said to be uptodate with vaccinations and is spayed. Daisy Mae also appears to prefer men

Shep

Shep has just arrived and is a typical lively 4 year old collie.  He has been handed into us reluctantly, his owner can't take him with her into rented accomodation.  She says he is good with children.  He seems slightly wary of other dogs at the moment and of men too but he's only been with us a few hours. He's a handsome lad but we've not been able to get a good pic yet - he doesn't seem to know what treats are!

Max & Bobbie

When I picked Max & Bobbie up from the vets where they were due to be put to sleep I asked the vets to print off their history so I could read a bit about them. They have not been to the vets a lot since 2003 when they first registered. It says they are both 12 years but the vets think Bobby is a bit younger. Max has been a couple of times for a bad back which has been solved with a course of Rimadyl but then goes away and an ear Infection which he has now so he has ear drops twice a day which he is happy to let you administer. They were then brought in on 11 Nov to discuss both dogs age and temperament as they said the dogs were both urinating in the house and fighting each other and snapping/biting at owner. For this reason they wanted to have them put to sleep as they didn't think a rescue would take them.

Max has poor eye sight in his old age and the vets think this could be the cause as it is common for older dogs to get a little grumpy especially if they have trouble seeing. The vet brought them out and They came and greeted me with tails wagging and seemed very happy. They settled well for the car journey home and when we arrived home I took them for a walk in the field with the other 10 dogs I have staying. They both went to the toilet outside and were happy to go into a bed together for the night. Again they came on a walk this morning and went to the toilet outside.

They have shown no aggression to each other, the other dogs or myself and have completely ignored my baby. I even fed them together and they were fine. They jumped on the sofa but listened when I told them to get down. Max seems more confident than Bobbie despite his poor eyesight and age and he still tries to play with the other dogs and enjoyed a good walk. They seem very happy together but I think they could also be re homed separately going by what their previous owner said about them so not to cause further problems. They would be quite happy as an only dog or with another older dog and would be a great companion for someone who wants a little lap dog.

Jimbie - fosterer needed

Jimbie is a big, strong and quite dominant Akita.  He will need a very experienced home with someone that knows the breed.  Please call if you can help.

I had a lovely walk with him today along the strawberry line he was really good even walking to heel for most the time when reminded, in fact he was brilliant when you consider he probably hasn't been walked in weeks!!

I am confident in a couple of weeks when he has learnt some manners he will make a lovely dog for the right people he is still a bit aloof about being touched but today let me smooth him for short periods before wandering off.

Rocky  - now in a foster home and is very happy!

As Rocky had only just arrived and this is the first time we had met him, he was nervous in his kennel, initially frightened of us, but once he had some treats and we played ball with him, he relaxed and enjoyed being out.  He ran enthusiastically after the ball and seems young and fit - he runs in a typical collie fashion - fast and focused!   Having been cautious of us at first, he accepted us quickly and came over to give us a kiss, and was happy to be stroked in-between running after balls, and even rolled over on his tummy for it to be rubbed.  He took treats gently.  He brings the ball back to you, lies down, and throws it towards you with his mouth for you to throw it again!  He really loves a game and will go on running after the ball for as long as you want to throw it!  He seems a lovely little collie who really enjoys playing games, and he really did NOT want to go back into his kennel after the happiness of being out and having company, barking to call us back.  He is bright and alert and would probably enjoy being trained to do agility and fly-ball - he already began to reveal a playful, characterful disposition, and.he has got a lot to give if someone would have time to let him shine!  Rocky has a shiny, thick and wavy coat, particularly wavy in the ruff around his neck and it seemed in good condition.  He is used to the lead, and sat to have it put on.  We did not introduce him to any dogs today, but he showed an interest in them when they entered a field below.  He may be a bit nervous and cautious when he first meets you, but he just needs someone who will introduce him gently to a new home, and help him get over the fears he feels now, to feel safe and trusting so he can relax, be himself, enjoy life with you, and show you what a lovely companion he can be

Rocky is a 4 year old collie that a young girl brought as an 8 week old puppy.  The girl kept leaving Rocky with her parents.  She would have him back for periods of time but has now decided she does not want him back again.  Her parents have now moved into a small flat without a garden so have asked us to take Rocky him.

Rocky has had quite a few changes in his life.  Being a very intelligent, loyal breed of dog, collies do find this hard to deal with.

So Rocky really deserves his own, forever home with people who will be consistent and loyal back for him.

2/11/09 Rocky is sadly being returned as he is so insecure with all the changes that has happened at the moment he cannot cope with being left, it makes him very upset, not destructive but he does bark.
30/11 Rocky is a super dog.  His housetraining is great and he is good mannered.  He does bark a bit so needs a home not too close to neighbours.  He doesn't like being away from people and this makes him bark.  He is OK at night.  He gets on really well with all the other dogs and has accepted the three new ones very well.  He still loves fetching a ball endlessly and this does tire him out.

Sammy

This is Sammy a lovely 9 year old collie x.  We have been asked to help him find a fantastic home as he is not keen on his owners toddler.  He is very loving and wants all the love to himself.  He's probably be happiest living as an only dog as this is what he is used to.  He loves his walks and cuddles and will make an ideal companion for someone!

Springer Jack

Update 13/11 Hello! Jacks the name. I am a liver and white English Springer Spaniel. I am 4 years old, castrated, micro chipped, fully vaccinated, and house trained. So what is the problem I hear you say? Well, in my short life I started out as a badly treated puppy, and I was rescued by a family who cared for me very much. But, due to work commitments I was left in the garden all day with only access to the garage. So unfortunately my social skills are lacking. When I arrived at the kennels I was very depressed and withdrawn. . The kennel staff were very kind to me but I really did not want to know and I would only eat at night when people were not looking. Now nearly 3 weeks on I have been staying with my Foster Carer who has several dogs of her own, and over the past 2 weeks I have really gained in confidence. I am a typical Spaniel off the lead and just cannot get enough walks, where I can flush all the birds in the hedges etc. Well, that's enough of me. My foster carer has asked me to explain what type of home I need. Because of my nervousness I cannot live in a forever home with young children. But I would love to live with another dog like me, only with more confidence, as I will have such a lot to learn. My foster carer will tell you more if you would like to phone her. Thanks for reading all about me, Jack.

Jack is so sad and quiet in the kennels we have not taken his picture for fear of upsetting him further. We sat with him, talked to him, offered him a big selection of treats, showed him the ball to entice him, but he just lay sad and still on his blanket. He seemed so lethargic, didn't make any fearful movements or make any sounds of fear towards us, just stayed still and looked at me with a sad, resigned, sort of "given up" look on his face.  I think he is weak - at one point his eyes kept closing even though I was sitting near him.  He gave me a lot of eye contact (did not look away in avoidance at all) and occasionally his ears moved at the other sounds.  At times he just stared blankly at the wall.  When we left him alone for a while he did eat the treats though which is a good sign.  The vet will be visiting him today Tues 27th and an update will follow asap.

Fizz - Being HomeVetted!

approx 4 year old girl good with children but not a cat lover - currently being assessed more details to follow. Fizz has a bed but has decided the washing basket is better! She has one blue and one brown eye hence they aren't coming out well in the snaps!

27/11 - The people who were to adopt Fizz have decided they cannot afford to adopt.  Dogs do cost an ongoing amount, decent food, yearly vaccinations and of course the dreaded vet bills hence we always recommend taking out insurance. However even with that if you cannot afford a donation for a dog to help other dogs remain alive and well it is a strong indication that you cannot afford to look after a dog going forwards!!

Paddy - Being HomeVetted!

Paddy is a large collie x.  He's neutered and estimated to be about 6 years old.  He has reluctantly been returned to us be cause he has some issues with other dogs so would really need be be homed as an only dog.  He also needs to go to a home with an experienced owner who will not let Paddy be dominant.  He is a lovely dog but needs clear rules and boundries that show him his place is not to rule or guard.  Despite these problem he really will make someone a lovely friend and he deserves a second chance.

Paddy loves to retrieve, but he doesn’t have any idea what is a good size for an object to throw. He will optimistically drag 12 ft fence rails to me to be thrown or very small pieces of foam.

Richard and Anne who kindly help out with walking some dogs say: "Paddy is a beautiful Border Collie cross.  When we exercised him in the field he loved playing with a ball, he brings it back to you each time and never gets tired of it being thrown.  He is quite obsessed with this game of fetch, and we felt that his concentration on this is a sign that he has abilities and energies which need to be harnessed and focused on specific tasks and roles.  We feel that someone who is experienced with border collies and really understands collie instincts, behaviour, and their need to use this intelligence and energy, and knows how this can be channelled and realised, would be the perfect companion for Paddy. He could have so much to offer with the right person, but his qualities could be wasted without activities and companionship with someone who loves and understands him.  We think that any problems he has had could be dispersed if he could be channelled in the appropriate way.  He is very special and we feel he would reveal his qualities in the right hands.  He seems young and fit, and was quite happy for us to stroke him although he was concentrating on the ball!   It would be a pleasure to groom him because he looks so handsome with his luxuriant, lovely-coloured coat".

8/11/09 He was very friendly when we met him again and perhaps he remembered he had spent time with us once before.  He was relaxed with us - not at all worried when his fosterer handed him over.  We had more interaction with him this time, in the sense of stroking him, affectionate eye contact, lots of wagging, bringing the ball to both of us, sitting down together, as well as the usual chasing after the ball and bringing it back to us, which he loves.  He is very good at giving the ball up, and you can also take it from him.  He let us take out bits of bramble or twig that got caught in his lovely furry tail without any trouble, and he seemed relaxed about letting me dry him with a towel at the end of our time together.  He took treats relatively gently too.  We took him to look at a horse in the stable yard and he did not bark at it or seem to react.  He is pretty good at coming back when you call him.  He is easy to exercise because he will run after a ball enthusiastically for as long as you like (bringing it back) and expends his energy, he obviously enjoys walking with you too.  On the lead he can pull quite strongly, but a lot of the time he does not pull that hard.  He would probably be better on an extending lead.  We think he would be a loyal and affectionate companion, and he is obviously getting used to meeting different people.  We think he's gorgeous!

Beaches - must be homed with Summer

Beaches is an ex breeding bitch would was no longer needed by the farmer.  She is exceptionally friendly and waggy though she has spent her life on the farm apparently.

Beaches has had many litters but is used to being out and about on the farm though not used to walking on a lead, being indoors or being pampered.  She and Summer are very best friends so might well need a very special home together.  Both are going to a lovely, kind foster home today so further updates will follow.

Both are seeing a groomer shortly as they are in great need of a comforting bath, nail trim and general pampering!  Both girls are middle aged, though Beaches is probably slightly younger.
Beaches and Summer have gone to our fabulous foster carer Ken.  He looked after little Lola (who had a hole in her heart) for us and found her an amazing home, we are sure he will give these two as much tlc as he did Lola - they are lucky girls!
11/9/09 Beaches is booked into the vets as she needs dental work , her ears flushed and a hysterectomy as she has a prolapsed womb. - An update will follow
1/10/09 Here's our 2 little girls together - they are doing really well Beaches is still on antibiotics but is much better now

see below for an update!

Peppa - Being HomeVetted!

Peppa is a lovely looking 2 year old rottweiler bitch who has come to us, through no fault of her own, from a family home, which she shared with a six year old child. She is very people friendly and greets you with her bum wagging as she has a docked tail. Peppa has settled into her new foster home very quickly. She happily plays with our mastiff dog but just about tolerates our cat, so not to be rehomed with cats. She is fully house trained and happily sleeps all night downstairs in her basket. She is not destructive when left on her own and is not greedy or food aggressive. She is on the small side for a rottie but has the classic rottie attributes of a strong, alert and intelligent demeanour. Although a strong dog she is very easy to handle as she is so keen to please and is submissive with all members of our family including my teenage daughter. Because of her confident manner she instinctively pulls when out on her walks but will walk to heel on the lead when instructed. Her recall off the lead in local fields is very good and she knows the basic commands of sit, down and stay. She has met many other dogs when out on her walks and is happy to meet and play with them but her play although non aggressive is at times loud, growly and boisterous.  Peppa is an energetic fun dog who craves inter action with people and would suit an active family used to the larger breeds. But with out small children as she could accidentally knock a youngster over. She would be happy to live with another friendly dog. We are delighted to have her in our home.

Miko - Being worked with he is not ready to be homed yet

Miko only barked and growled at us initially when we looked into his kennel space through the bars.  We let him out into the little paddock behind their kennels and he was absolutely fine. He really enjoyed a game with the ball and loved his treats, he sat down - lay down on occasions - for treats and jumped up once with his paws on my hands.  He was friendly and lively, absolutely loved being out and running around playing with us, and when Richard took him back into the kennel he said he was quite affectionate with him - (neither of us had tried to stroke him, but let him come to us).  In his inner kennel, near his bed, Richard went down on his haunches and Miko climbed up on his knee with his front paws and licked Richard's face.  He's a really good looking, bright and alert little Springer.

Mojo - A shy and sensitive dog

Update 12/4/09

Mojo recently enjoyed a Dogs Friends day out but he tends to bark a lot at new dogs when he first sees them putting them and their humans off meeting him, when he settles down he is a lot better.  He needs an owner used to big dogs who has the time and patience to help socialise Mojo giving him the training and confidence he needs.

Mojo is a very friendly and affectionate, but a bit clumsy, he is nervous of other dogs and we think he probably wasn't socialised at all as a young dog. The first vet he saw thinks he may have been locked up as his poor pads were worn and very sore. He's still a shy boy and will need a home where someone is prepared to put time and training into him and where someone will show him that the world isn't such a scary place.

6/10/09 - Update from our volunteers Richard & Anne

As expected, Mojo was very guarded and watchful with us at first; we chose not to approach him directly, and directed all our interaction toward John, his fosterer.  Mojo chose to keep his distance for a while.  However, after a fairly short time, he came of his own accord to give us each an exploratory sniff.  Having apparently satisfied himself of his safety around us, he came over for longer intervals and eventually was quite happy to be touched and stroked by both of us and showed touching affection and a warm character, with a real glint in his eye!  I think there was still a tolerance or caution, rather than enthusiasm, in his approaches, but really wanting to be friendly and feel safe enough to be so - though we both thought he was more comfortable initially with Anne than with me (a male!).  While he may be short on socialisation with other people, we don't think this would be a problem - he just needs a little time to learn to trust strangers;  we think any prospective adoptee might be advised to meet him quite a few times before attempting to steal him from John!!  He needs a sensitive, gentle person and he would in time bond closely with them - as is evident in his relationship with his fosterer.  We both think he's one of the most attractive dogs (looks and nature) that we've met at Dogs Friends.  He wouldn't be right for our dogs as it would seem that he feels rather nervous of dogs and chooses to keep his distance, so probably would not be happiest living with others, although he seems tolerant of them - but if we didn't have a dog, we'd have wanted to adopt him as he's just our sort of dog.
21.11.09  Today we took Mojo out in the field for the second time.  He was a bit nervous on meeting, but soon got used to being with us and without his foster-carer.  He soon relaxed and enjoyed being out, interacting with us more and more. He got quite excited at one point when we threw a toy, and had several mad bursts of energy racing around, running back to us and sometimes jumping up on us and taking our hand in his mouth - really exuberant (so not a good idea to go with young children as he could knock them over).  He is quite strong, and he thinks he is still a puppy, although most of the time with us he was quite subdued and gentle.  He very much enjoyed being given treats, and once or twice put his paw up on us for more.  So he in fact soon forgot himself and his nerves and enjoyed the company, even leaning against us.  He is still a bit nervous at the sounds of other dogs around.  He needs someone or a couple with dog experience who really love him and learn to understand him, as his nervousness must stem from unkindness in the past and he just needs to feel safe again, then we are sure he would blossom with the care and a feeling of belonging.  He would then feel set-free from fear to be himself, and to show all the character, affection and loyalty he undoubtedly has.  He would probably be better as the only dog.  With a secure, steady home and some loving attention, we are sure he would become an adorable companion, and he is very handsome!

Guiness

This is Guiness shes about 14 years old. She is clearly feeilng very sorry for herself at the moment.  She is an absolute sweetheart.  Not a nasty bone in her body. I took her out today for a couple of short walks.  She is obviously stiff and takes little "dolly" steps but seemed to enjoy getting out.  Apparently she has hardly been out in the last 2 years. She is booked into the vet we think she has an infection and a flea allergy and obviously needs medication for her joints.

22/10 Guiness is back from the vets, thankfully she doesn't have an infection.  She may possibly have fox mange which she is being treated for.  She was far more settled last night andshe went for a longer walk with friends this morning.  She was pretty amazing and managed to keep up with the other dogs.  She just slotted in and thoroughly enjoyed herself.  She is the sort of dog who gets on with anyone and anything and is very well behaved.

25/10 Guiness is starting to be a little more confident and less anxious now.  She is a bright girl and eager to please.  She has very quickly realised that if she goes in the car it means going out for a decent walk and therefore seizes every opportunity to get into the car!  She doesn't like going out in the garden for a wee and if you don't watch her she will pee on the carpet - so we do have to make a conscious effort to put her in the garden as she won't ask to go out.  We haven't had any accidents for the last 2 days though!  As you can see here she is already looking brighter & more confident.

29/10 Guiness had another evening primrose bath today and her skin is definately improving as she no longer scratches.  She is as good as gold and seems to take everything in her stride.  There are no more accidents either which is excellent.  She has walked near horses, cattle and sheep and totally ignores them.  When out on a walk she never strays very far and her recall is good.  You could not wish for a better behaved dog - we haven't heard a peep out of her.  She is good company and a absolute pleasure to have around.

17/11 The people thinking of adopting Guiness have decided that she is not playful enough to go with their dog so she is still looking for a loving home.

Her propolin has been reduced down to the minimum dose now and in a few days will try and take her off of it to see what happens.  Accidents are a thing of the past and she even asks to go in the garden now.  Someone somewhere has obviously been unkind to Guiness in the past - although she loves the car she cowers and tries to hide every time she gets in as if she has done something terribly wrong.  She is much better going through doors now and is definately happier now that she knows our routine.  Whilst she gets lots of cuddles which we initiate, now that we are gaining her trust she is slowly starting to gingerly ask for affection.  Having said this when we are out walking she shows no fear of people - it is only noticeable in the home and car. I am sure that the more she settles, the more confidence she'll gain and the less of a worrybag she'll become.  She is an absolute sweetheart.
27/11 - Guiness has been off the propolin now for 5 days.  I don't like to speak too soon but she is not leaking atall and I believe that her initial incontinence was totally down to stress.  She is gradually coming out of herself but still very reserved.  The other day couple of young dogs were playing and knocked Guiness.  Since then I have noticed that when we are out walking she gives the younger bouncy dogs a wide berth.  She is happy to say hello but comes to me to avoid them if they want to play. I have thought long and hard to find fault with Guiness..... and her only vice is she snores ... like a bloke after a few pints!  It's hilarious - she even wakes herself up, and looks most indignant

Callie - Doing Well

Callie is a gorgeous collie x springer.  She sadly has come to Dogs Friends as her owner has to go into a nursing home.  Callie is 14 years.  She had a hip operation a few years ago and is slightly stiff on her back legs so just wants a kind, loving retirement home with a garden she can sniff around in with perhaps the odd stroll down the road.

22/1/0/09 Poor Callie has been very ill and the vet has discovered she has a large tumor.  The vet has decided it is not in her best interest to operate so her fosterer is  giving all the care and love to her she needs whilest she can still enjoy her life.  We will not move Callie now, she is happy in her foster home so that is where she will live out her days without any more upset.

18/11/09 Callie is doing well. She is enjoying her life, still enjoying walks and food and is an absolute darling of a dog her fosterer is very pleased to be able to help this fabulous girl have a happy last few months.

Mick

Mick has sadly been returned to us.  He is a young, very lively Collie x lab.  He has a habit of mouthing people when excited and this needs careful handling.  His fosterer previously had almost resolved this issue but he has reverted to his old ways.  Unfortunatly his fosterer cannot have him back as she is already working with another dog so poor Mick is in kennels, and very unhappy about it!

Mick is now back in his former foster home settling as if hes never been away, an update will follow.

Since Mick (Henry) came back to us hes been his usual happy, well behaved self. Being more like a Labrador than a collie he is very affectionate and loves his food but he never steals it! He's clean in the house and loves to be groomed and cuddled. He can be left for 4 to5 hours and is quiet and not destructive. He's good with other dogs and enjoys playing with mine but is happy nto except that she is the boss. He travels well in the car and loves his walks.

He would make a great second dog for any expeirienced home and would reward them with lots of love and his loyalty.

Sol is Being HomeVetted!

An elderly lady died over in Wales at the start of this year.  Her son went in to clear out his mothers house, including all the animals she had collected.  These included several staffies in crates.  Two of these dogs were Tegan, an elderly Staffie girl and her son Sol.  They had spent nearly their whole lives living in individual small crates!  The neighbours were shocked as they had no idea.  The other animals went to other rescues and Sol and his mother went to local kennels in Wales where they have waited for months for a rescue place.  For the first time, they shared a kennel together and were so happy. Dogs Friends were recently asked to take them in.  They arrived in Somerset a few weeks ago and can't believe their luck.  They are loving the fields to explore and the balls to play with.  They also love the people making a fuss of them and taking them on walks.  They do not stop wagging their tails, even when having their vaccinations.

Sol is a dark brindle Staff dog,Very sweet dog just needs a good loving permanent home now to grow old disgracefully. Staffy experience would be a bonus.  He doesn't like cats and some other males hes not sure of but fine with most.

4/9/09 We have had some fabulous volunteers working with Sol and Tegan - They have discovered that Sol is very protective around Tegan and gets really agitated when other dogs are around.  He also seems to be bullying her slightly so we are trialing them apart for short periods.  So far it actually seems to be doing both dogs a world of good.  We will try them apart for slightly long and see how the get on - so far neither have been stressed by being seperated, in fact both seem more relaxed!  If this continues we will be able to split them which will give both a better chance of finding their own forever home.  However, please note, that if we think either dog will not benefit from this we will not split them.

9/9/09

Both dogs seem to be thriving apart, Tegan is more confident and Sol more relaxed especially around other dogs so we think they can be homed separately so If you could offer one a home please call!

15/9/09 Sol is still coming on leaps and bounds, I took him for a lovely walk today along the Strawberry line and on the way back we stopped for a rest on the river bank so he could cool down and for the first time without me prompting him he walked over and gave me a great big sloppy kiss! it was quite emotional actually!

25/9/09

SOL has changed so much over the last few weeks since being separated from his mum, now he doesn't have his mum to be protective of he can concentrate on himself. He now craves human company when I walk into the kennel block I call his name and I can hear him getting all exited he is up at the bars by the time I get to him waiting for his tummy rub. We have trained him now to walk on a harness and he doesn't pull not one bit, he will wait when told at the side of the road to cross and is always looking up at you to check all is OK. I love taking this boy for a walk no matter how bad a day you have had he never ceases to cheer you up, he swaggers along just happy to be out and about and is always eager to please, fair enough he isn't good with other dogs but its not his fault he wasn't socialised. He isn't hard work in fact he walks better on a lead than my two he is a total joy to be around, you just have to accept the fact he is getting on in years and isn't interested in making new friends of the four legged variety!  If I thought for one second he would be happy living with two young bouncy Rottweilers I would have him home in a heartbeat. He deserves a place to call home with a comfy bed and a garden to potter about in, he will repay you with love ten times over and will keep a smile on your face I promise you!

Neathcliffe - Please give me a home!

Poor Neathcliff has been returned to us as he does not get on with other dogs in the home.  As most of our fosterers have their own dogs we are currently putting him up in kennels but he is very sad there - please can you help?

He is a year old staffie x who is VERY intelligent and quick to learn, he picked up clicker training and would be fantastic at agility.  If you would like a dog to train and spend time with this is the one for you.

He can be dominant so need a sensible, experienced owner preferably without young children but we feel he would be fine with older dog savvy ones.

28/9/09 Neathcliffe, in contrast to Rover, seemed quite at ease meeting someone he didn't know, merely coming over for a sniff.  He is a cheeky, cute-faced little Staffie cross who is full of life and enthusiasm, is bouncy, and loves to play with Rover, although he plays a bit too roughly at times and could probably prove to be dominant with some dogs.  He was thrilled to be out in the field and took full advantage of it, running around with Rover exploring everything.  Then they played with balls and toys, they had some tugs of war which mostly ended with one giving in to the other!  Neathcliffe enjoyed taking treats and was playful and affectionate with us, rolling over on his back to be stroked and also chewing his ball lying on his back!  In our experience, he seemed to have Staffie traits of being friendly with people and, although he certainly loves Rover's company, you would just have to watch him with other dogs in case any excitement or dislike escalates.  A very cute little fellow who in the right hands would make an affectionate, cheerful, playful and bright companion.

Our volunteers think Neathcliffe is an affactionate cheeky, playful lad!

Summer - Must be homed with Beaches

When Summer, the Shitzu was younger she had an accident and the vet had to remove one of her eyes.  She is such a sweet, timid little girl who is very attached to Beaches. we would like Summer and Beaches to go to a home together as they have already formed a stong bond.   Please only call if you want to offer them both a home or have other dogs.  Thanks
Beaches and Summer have gone to our fabulous foster carer Ken.  He looked after little Lola for us and found her an amazing home we are sure he will give these two as much tlc as he did Lola - they are lucky girls!
We were told Summer was going to be a Shitsu but on arrival and cleaning up we beleive she is a Lhaso Apso!

8/10/09

Well Summer and Beaches are coming on great, from the poorly and very quiet dogs, with no fur after them having to be clipped on arrival due to matted and dirty fur, which showed up sores the vet has spent some time getting them back to healthy dogs, with the exception of Beacheswho has emphysema and although she is responding to treatment, she will never be fully better.

They love to be together, they love to be brushed, Beaches is the lap dog, and needs to be fussed, Summer likes fuss but on her terms, i.e. when she gets to know you and stroking only no holding. They are getting on well with strangers due to the help of my friends down the pub who always make a big fuss of them. They would be happy with someone who can spend time with them and give them lots of love. I have found them to be tow lovely little companions.

Rover - What a handsome Lad!

31st October 2008

Rover has settled in well into his foster home, but is still looking for a forever home of his own. He ended up with us after he was taken into the pound in Swansea by a man, who claimed he had found him as a stray but the owner of the pound suspects that he was actually Rover's owners. He is quite a nervous dog who is suspicious of strangers and a bit stubborn, he's very affectionate with nice, well behaved dogs and is very agile, and he obviously has the brains and the agility of a collie. We are looking for a home for Rover with dog knowledge, someone who has the time and patience to show him the world and work with him to show him that not everything is as scary as he thinks. We won't let him go to a home with small children as we think they will worry him, however he could go to a home with dog savvy teenagers.

A bird found it’s way into the kitchen and was then trapped by the window. Rover could not of been less interested in it. I opened the window and the bird flew away.

28/9/9 Rover was very nervous and snappy with someone he didn't know when first brought out of his fosterer's van.  However, he quickly calmed down and accepted being taken on the lead by a stranger.  We spent time out with him and he did not take long to accept us and to be affectionate. As he got used to us he ran over to each of us briefly in a friendly way, then ran off again to play, and gradually he spent longer each time he came to us and enjoyed sharing affection, trusting us more and giving us kisses. He played boisterously with Neathcliffe, also sharing balls and rope toys in tugs of war, and enjoying the freedom of running around exploring the field.  Neathcliffe plays quite roughly with him, and occasionally it escalated, but the dogs backed down of their own accord.  Rover quickly lost the fears and uncertainties he had of us initially and became relaxed in the enjoyment of being out in the company of new humans, his fosterer, and his friend Neathcliffe.  Rover has obviously bonded closely with his fosterer, with whom he is very relaxed and affectionate, so we are sure he would appreciate anyone who really loved him and would bond easily with them.  We think he is a lovely dog - handsome in looks and good-natured with those he trusts

Bess

Bess really is a gorgeous girl who has settled in very well with her fostercarer.  She has come to us in very sad circumstances.  She had been living in Wales very happily with her owner and a Jack Russell terrier.  Due to the terrible recent event in the news the owner was no longer able to take Bess and the Jack Russell out on walks together as people were throwing stones at this poor lovely girl.  She wasn't even safe to be left to sniff happily in her own back garden.  She has done nothing wrong apart from being born as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  Please do not tarnish all Staffies with a bad reputation. Please could someone give her the chance she deserves, she is only 4 years old and would make someone a devoted, loving friend for life.  Being fostered in Weston Super Mare

Bess recently did not get on at all with someone elses dog so it appears she may be fussy as to what other dogs she likes!

Darling Dottie

Darling little Dottie dog is about 7 years old.  She has spent her life as a breeding Westie on a large farm.  Her owner felt Dottie has not been very happy for a while and so has now retired her and let her come over to find a wonderful home for the rest of her life.

Dottie is a total babe.  Exceptionally sweet and gentle.  She is very timid but so gentle and wagged so gratefully when she was given her evening meal.

Dottie is a really delight little girl.  Her coat is in a bad way at the moment but, with time and good care, will doubtless improve.

I am sure Dottie will be happier living with at least one other gentle little dog to show her all about home life.
25/5/09
Dottiesays "thank you for the sardines, my fur is growing back thanks to the sardines, good diet and fresh air. picture to follow showing how pretty I am".
12/8/09
She does have a few small issues, escape artist, needs very secure garden, she has scratched all the inside of our garden gate trying to get out.
Still marking her territory so I have no mats or carpets on the floor, howls at new noises, can howl when left even when left with five other dogs, no recall.
Is still very timid, loves going out on walks, is good travelling in car, good with other dogs and children. So Dottie is looking for a very understanding and patient home, with either another dog or some
one who is going to be with her 24/7  or has neighbours who are deaf or can put up with a howling dog.
Alternately of course if they lived in a middle of a field with no neighbours that would be good.
Having said all that Dottie is a very sweet and loving little girl. Being a terrorist no cats allowed!
30/11/09
Dottie is a very charming, gentle little dog who will need to have a dog companion and someone who is home most of the time as she will howl at strange  (to her) noises.
When Dottie was spayed a few weeks ago the vet found a mammary tumour, which was removed and sent for
histology, however in the mean time the gland where the tumour was removed has become swollen and painful, my vet is not sure whether it is an infection or perhaps cancer, she is on antibiotics and pain relief and has to see the vet again next Tuesday. It may be that she will have to have an operation to remove the whole mammary gland, but as my vet said nothing is guaranteed. So at the moment it is a case of wait and see.
So for the time being Dottie will be staying with Dogsfriends until she is well enough to be rehomed.

Tom - Wants a retirement home of his own

Sadly Tom has been returned to us.  He just doesn't get on with some other dogs in the home.

Tom is a 12 year old collie, he is blind but he copes very well with this, enjoying his walks and life in general.  He lives currently in a busy house with a cat that he ignores and teenagers who he gets on fine with.  He would just love a retirement home to call his own.

Being fostered in Somerset

Zorro - we are looking for sponsers

Poor Zorro has been with his fosterers for a long time and has some problems - we would really welcome someone who would love a dog - can't commit the time - but would help us with funding by sponsoring him  if you could help please call us. As you can see from the picture he still enjoys life and playing with his toys we just need help in funding the medicines he needs to carry on enjoying himsef!
